The summer of 1976 was one of the hottest on record and in a time of chopper bikes, flared trousers, space hoppers and Brotherhood of Man, the Government appointed a Minister for Drought. Within three days it started raining.

No better time to be an ice cream man and no better place to be than the spectacular Northumberland coast, with its rich mix of heritage, history and stunning scenery. We learn how castles, crabs and kippers, come together with cones and characters, along with the odd confrontation and the distinct local dialect.

It all unfurls as an old van trundles through seaside villages, caravan sites and along harbours, in a bid to keep the customers satisfied
