Valerie Lowrey Doherty began writing children’s fiction over a decade ago with the hope her stories would be fun, engaging, comforting, and educational. Additionally, she wishes that the stories promote a love of reading for young readers.
She worked many years as a speech-language pathologist and early childhood educator in a number of settings. Her varied experiences with young children fostered professional interests in early language and literacy development and eventually launched her desire to become a children’s author.
Because of her dedication to literacy, she donates a portion of her royalties to organizations that support literacy efforts for children and adults.
Valerie lives in the midwestern United States, sharing her time between suburban Chicago and Nebraska. When she is not creating stories, she enjoys reading all kinds of books, cooking, sports, and dancing.
