Edward was born in Chester and brought up on the Isle of Skye. He was an avid reader, devouring books such as Rider Haggard, Kipling, John Buchan, all filled him with a longing for adventure. After gaining a degree in Philosophical Theology and English, he decided he needed a change. A stint in Kenya was followed with a move to Asia and it was here he found his true vocation.

An all-consuming passion for education overtook him and indeed his wife a teacher from Java, and they spent the following 15 years in international schools all over East Asia. At first, he taught but moved later into management, teacher training and consultancy.

Keen on wildlife, he made repeated visits to both Sumatra to see the orangutans and to Komodo Island to view the dragons. The rest of the time he would dive observing the fascinating life on the reefs.

Any attempt at creative writing was put on hold during his career though he did publish papers on educational reform and policy through the International Baccalaureate Organisation.

Due to failing health, the lure of the Orient began to fade and Edward returned home to Skye and took up the first page of the novel he had begun 10 years before. His love of the small islands off Lombok and his experiences in Indonesia are always on his mind. This love was to grow into his first novel ‘The Deadliest Catch.’
