Heaton was born in Stalybridge, near Manchester, and has lived and worked in Bolton, Hereford and Worcester, Southampton, Hertfordshire, London and Gloucestershire. Now, he has finally settled in his dream location – a house with views of the sea on the Isle of Wight.
Over the years he has been a newspaper journalist, a postman, a public relations officer, a consultant, a magazine editor, an actor, a director, and a leader of memory groups for people with dementia.
But whatever he has done, he has kept writing.
He has had several plays published, but turned his hand to crime fiction a few years ago, and self-published Every Reason – the first book featuring DCI Jane Birchfield – in 2016.
The second, Whatever It Takes, was published in 2021, and his collection of short stories set on the Isle of Wight is to be published soon.
He is proud to join the team of authors at Blossom Spring Publishing and looking forward to the release of his third book, Retribution. He is, meanwhile, already working on the fourth.
These days, when he’s not writing, or reading, he can be found hacking at brambles; putting up rabbit defences round his garden; and walking his two rescue dogs, Robbie and Twiggy.
