The Journey home offers a message of hope and eternal love for young children learning to live without a loved one. A ray of sunshine during difficult times. Kiki and Oscar, with the help of Alexandra and Maksim, their angel friends, share a beautiful story about how their beloved Granny went back to heaven to be with Grandpa, Scottie, their cheeky dog, and all her friends who went home before her. Granny’s love for Kiki, Oscar, and their parents, is still very much alive. Kiki and Oscar teach their parents how Grandma tells them of her eternal love for them and of her joy and happiness to be back with Grandpa. Her language is now one of colourful rainbows, dancing butterflies and other wonderful signs for Kiki and Oscar to recognise. See if you can find the bright shining yellow star on each page!

A superb book with wonderful illustrations, helping children come to terms with the loss of a loved one. The two children in the story learn to cope with the loss of their much loved grandmother. This is a very uplifting story that gives hope and paints a very different picture of the normal grief associated with having to say goodbye to someone close to us. Suitable for all ages and even adults will enjoy this story. Highly recommended!

It’s not easy to explain to children what happens when people pass away and this story simply does it well in a most positive way. I’d recommend it to any kid even if they didn’t experience a loss of a close person but simply to connect with the world of spirituality. It’s well written and the illustrations are fantastic.

This book is excellent for young children. A good book for adults to read with them. The simple but extremely important story goes a long way to bringing the knowledge, that we are all loved and protected. More importantly it helps young and old to understand that when someone we love dies, it is not the end but a new chapter of eternal life and the love once felt is still with us. The illustrations are superb, just as a child would see through there eyes. My youngest Grandaughter (8) loved this book and especially searching for the stars on each page. She is keen to colour the pictures of the Angels at the back of the book.
Charlotte writes with compassion and simplicity. She has the wisdom to impart the story in a way that is sympathetic to an otherwise
and often criticized subject. Life and Love after physical death.

I recently lost my mother-in-law and my daughter was having trouble understanding what had happened. I searched and searched through bereavement books and found this one which perfectly fit our needs. It’s a wonderful story about a Grandma in the family who passes away. Although a sad topic, The Journey Home leaves you feeling uplifted and my daughter had a much greater understanding, not to mention she loved trying to find the star on each page! Charlotte Douglas clearly has a great grasp on how to appeal to all ages, particularly the young ones who may find it difficult to understand the passing of a loved one. Charlotte, I look forward to future books of yours and thank you so much for helping me find the words needed for my daughter. I wouldn’t have found them without you!

The journey home is a sweet story that will help children deal with losing a loved one. It reminds me of myself as a little girl opening the curtains of my grandma’s bedroom so grandpa, who’d just passed, would be able to see her from Heaven. I know that for me it was a huge comfort ‘knowing’ that he was still there and I feel this book will help children of all ages come to terms with life and loss. This book is also a great tool for parents, care givers, teachers and all of those trying to help children coping with grief. I can honestly say I thoroughly recommend this book.

This beautiful little book is so warm and inspiring not only for children but for adults as well. It’s heartwarming simplicity delivers its encouraging and uplifting message, touching the hearts of anyone who has lost someone dear. Through this book, we may look at death differently, not as a final ending but more like returning home at the end of term to the loved ones we haven’t seen in a while who are waiting for us with open arms and loving hearts to welcome us. Very well done Charlotte Douglas – such a valuable contribution to dealing with loss and grief.

A lovely book. Beautifully written and illustrated with grace and sensitivity. It provides the answer for a life situation where a parent’s own emotions might make it difficult to talk to a son or daughter, about something so fundamental and important.
